May Meeting's Tardy Update

My apologies for the tardiness of this update from the May meeting! Here goes:

Miranda's trunk was FULL of new pillows and other items for the donation to HOPE! Thanks to all for who donated to Hope for their generosity!!! On Thursday, May 8, HOPE held a brunch for the women who utilize the shelter's services. At the brunch they were distributing the "Chicken Soup for the Mother's Soul" books that the League purchased and donated. I'm sure having a new pillow for them to sleep on was much appreciated as well. Thanks Miranda for organizing this community service project and handling the distribution of all of our materials!!!

Nan reported that the League has over $7K in checking and another $5K in CD. The League has become a member of the Fairmont Chamber of Commerce. Thanks Nan for continuing to handle our finances with such care and for executing the administrative aspect of us joining the Chamber of Commerce!!!

Office clean out & move out update: Historical items will be stored at Nan's house until a final home is found for them. Nan & Paula held a Primary Election Day clean out. A 2nd clean out day is schedule for Tuesday, May 20th at 6:30 PM.

Congratulations to the 2008-2009 Officers!
President - Paula Hatten
Treasurer - Natalie (Nan) Branch (2 year term)
Recording/Corresponding Secretary - Stacey Layman
Nominating - Kathy Servian (2 year term)

You should have received your dues reminder by now, thanks to Stacey! Sustainer dues are $50. Active dues are $70. All checks should be sent to Nan.

Year End Dinner will be an informal event due to the unfortunate fire at the Fairmont Field Club. Come join in on the fun on Tuesday, June 3rd at 6:00 PM at Backwoods Grill.

Fairmont Finds Fundraiser will be held in conjunction with the FGH yard sale. Stacey is reserving 4 spaces for the League. If you have a folding table for us to use, please let Stacey know as soon as possible. The event will be held in the parking lot at the foot of the hill from FGH on June 7th. Stacey will send out more information on this once it becomes available. Start pricing your items for sale now!

Julia Pierpont Day is May 24th. As a result, the League is making a donation to support Girl Scout Troop #5715 to purchase flags for the veteran's graves. (Trivia nugget: Fairmont’s Pierpont is credited with initiating Decoration Day in 1866. A national Decoration Day was proclaimed in 1868 and was renamed Memorial Day in 1882. Julia's hubby wasn't so bad himself, Francis H. Pierpont, was elected Governor of Restored Virginia in 1861 and is more commonly known by WV trivia buffs as the "Father of West Virginia.")

Paula will be coordinating the League's participation in the Marion County Partners in Prevention at Wave Tek Pool on Saturday, June 14th from 6-9 PM. She'll post/email more information on that community service event when it comes available.
