At our meeting on April 1st we were going to be taking up a collection for Chestnut Ridge Day Hospital. Kathy encouraged bringing cleaning supplies and such which will be appreciated.
Paula talked with a teacher that just recently made a donation to HOPE (our project for May). They are in need of normal stuff we think of (toothpaste, shampoo etc) but also really need towels, sheets (especially twin), blankets and washrags. They are fine with gently used items. Also one of the ladies makes a blanket for each child so she appreciates yarn. So as you are doing your spring cleaning, be looking for these items.
Miranda writes that she has also talked with someone at HOPE and she was very excited about us doing a Mother's Day donation. HOPE's representative said that they do get donations from various places from time to time, but they have never had anyone focus solely on these individuals as mothers. Miranda will be updating us at the April meeting on our May project!
If you haven't already done so, update your Volunteer Service Awards records now. VSAs must be done by March 30th for this year's awards! You can count all meetings, meeting preparations, projects, fundraisers, etc. Basically every minute you spend on the Junior League or volunteering in the community helps you achieve your VSA hours. 100 hours is the minimum you need to qualify for a VSA award. You'll be surprised how quickly the hours add up!!!
