I should have a final count on those after the Dec 18th. Also Deanna shared that her son Wes's daycare jumped right in and helped collected Meal in Bags this put our final count to 57 meals and $20 cash donation! These are perfect examples on how we as a small League can still make a huge difference. We all have families, co-workers, friends who can help us. They do not have to be a part of the Junior League to help us with our projects. Our January DIAD is Meal in a Bag again. Please encourage people who you know and will see over the holidays to help with the collection of food for our food pantries.

A big thank you for those who were able to make it out Monday to shop for our Angel Tree Kids. I cannot wait to hear about all the goodies that you got for our little ones.

The Premier Jewelry is coming in so watch your porch for deliveries. If you came to the party and ordered, I have your orders. If you collected outside orders, your order and the orders you collected will be coming to your house.

I also want to take his time to encourage you again to be checking the AJLI website regularly. I found this article and found it very interesting.

http://www.ajli.org/?nd=sesamestreet

Can you imagine us on Television??? We will be on radio shortly. Cecilia is looking for folks that will be willing to be interviewed on by her hubby on the radio about the Junior League and all we do. Please let Cecila know if you are willing to do this. (magintamoon@yahoo.com) Ithink it would be great if the Project Chairs (or someone else if they can talk them into it) would talk about our projects. Pajama Project, Reach out and Read, Kids in the Kitchen, Silent Witness, Pink Ladies Night Out, Out Done in a Day Projects...you know who you are. She said the interviews can be pre taped.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and will enjoy the upcoming Holidays.

As always, thanks for all you do!

PaulaPaulahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17883571241227060322noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5453698520205509364.post-88810048490956146612009-11-23T09:48:00.001-05:002009-11-23T09:51:15.947-05:00November UpdateLadies,

Wow, Is it really Thanksgiving already?? I hope you all are able to slow down during the holidays and enjoy time with your family and friends these upcoming weeks. A huge thank you to all of you that brought your "Meals in a Bag" to our November meeting. Deanna's trunk was absolutely full. She donated all the food to the food pantry in Clarksburg that serves several counties in the area. I also want to thank the members that came out in support for our Premier Jewelry Fundraiser Party. I do not have our totals yet, I should have them by our December social.

Our December project is "The Pajama Project". We will be collecting pajamas for homeless children in our area at our Christmas Social on December 1st. The location was changed for our Christmas Social due to the party also serving as our New Member Social. We are hoping for a big turn out a was a little worried about overwhelming Nan's neighborhood with cars. So the meeting will now be at the Marion County Chamber. Please bring a covered dish, two Chinese Exchange gifts (so our new members will not be left out of the fun) and don't forget your PJ's. I am sure you will find some great deals this Friday on pajama sets.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family and friends and as always..thanks for all you do!
PaulaPaulahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17883571241227060322noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5453698520205509364.post-88332402709293277792009-10-13T10:17:00.002-04:002009-10-13T10:45:20.135-04:00October MeetingLadies,

What a whirlwind meeting! We are also going to use this time to invite new members to learn more about the League. In the past we have done a Chinese gift exchange, so we are asking that you bring one $10 gift for yourself and an extra one to throw in for any potential members that might be coming. The Holiday/New Member Party is also serving as our general meeting in December so we will be collecting our pajamas for the pajama program. At the Annual Meeting, which took place on the Saturday of the conference, delegates approved a proposed Bylaw change regarding electronic voting, rescinded the previous AJLI Vision Statement AND adopted a new Vision Statement:

“The Junior League: Women Around the World as Catalysts for Lasting Community Change.”

“The new Vision Statement reflects our hopes for the future…our vision for the next 20-plus years…yet works in tandem with our existing Mission and Reaching Out Statements,” said Debbie Brown Robinson, AJLI Board President. The new Vision Statement represents both a call to action to prospective members and an inspired invitation to existing members to re-engage. In the true spirit of Mary Harriman, it encourages us to seize new opportunities to address issues critical to members at a local level as well as matters of global concern. And, finally, it positions us to refocus our Association's purpose to generate lasting community change and move forward in the 21st century through the leadership of trained volunteers.

From here, AJLI—with the help of consultants from the Monitor Institute, a prominent think tank and consulting firm with substantial nonprofit experience— will develop a new AJLI Strategic Plan. This will be a highly interactive process, with ample opportunity for Junior League leader and member involvement and input throughout the summer and early fall. Conversations about the bright future of the Junior League Movement will continue at AJLI’s Fall Leadership Conference in Denver in October.

Be sure to go to www.ajli.org to view the video about our new Vision Statement. It was recorded on site in Atlanta immediately following the Annual Meeting.Paulahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17883571241227060322noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5453698520205509364.post-83720681365466044212009-05-26T09:42:00.002-04:002009-05-26T09:52:11.382-04:00JL Board Meeting- May 20th, 2009Where: Paula Hatten's Home
Time: 5:30 pm

Meeting called to order.

Review of officers for next year:
President- Paula Hatten
President-Elect- Sharon Hesse
Treasurer- Kathy
Recording Secretary- Deana Palmer
Corresponding Secretary- Stacey Layman
Nomining- Lindsey Lilley

Action item to Stacey- Send Deans blog log in information via e-mail

Canada Training Trip
An additional fee is now required to expedite the passport cards in order to make it in time for the trip. The Junior League Surf Challenge is a contest that will encourage all AJLI members to join the website and increase web exposure,

The contest is set to launch on February 1, 2009 and extend through June 15, 2009. We will be competing against all 292 Leagues, and the three Leagues with the most effective enrollment drive, in each of three categories, wins a $500 stipend, courtesy of Digital Cheetah, the firm that developed the news site. Winners will also be featured in a cover story in the Summer 2009 issue of Connected.

AJLI will measure participating Leagues’ enrollment numbers over the web reporting period from February 1 – June 15, and the League that has the most effective enrollment in each of the three categories wins.

The categories are:
1. The largest % change
2. The largest number League members enrolled on the site
3. The highest % total League members enrolled

So Junior League of Fairmont, let’s go Surfing!

AJLI is grateful for League participation in its new web marketing initiatives. If you have questions about the new website, please email ajli_communications@ajli.org.

About the new AJLI.org: The new AJLI.org was designed from the ground up to network and engage the entire Association, whether you are a League President, Communications Chair, Sustainer or Active member. The goal of the redesign was to facilitate greater dialogue among Leagues and between League members and the Association. Each League now has its own page to advertise and archive current and past community projects, fundraisers, newsletters, awards, and much more. Additionally each League will have the ability to host an internal blog addressed to its members, and pictures and videos you upload to your League pages will have an option to feed directly to the Members homepage.

Paulahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17883571241227060322noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5453698520205509364.post-75741157238321787792009-03-04T09:41:00.002-05:002009-03-05T08:04:30.306-05:00March Meeting RecapFirst of all, Congratulations to our new 2009-2010 officers that were elected last night.
Sharon Hesse President Elect
Kathy Servian Treasurer
Deanna Palmer Recording Secretary
Stacey Laymen Corresponding Secretary

We also decided to hold our Spring Provisional Meet and Greet on April 14th. I know that it threw some folks off since we did not have it on our regular night. We will be back on track for meetings on the first Tuesdays of the month starting March. The board met and this statement passed with a vote of 3-1.

The Junior League of Fairmont supports and promotes community efforts to ensure well rounded enrichment opportunities for local families by sponsoring educational events and providing cultural programs.

We can always revisit this if we find that this is too hard to remember. But this should be our impact statement, what we tell people when we are asked "What does the Junior League do"

We also took Nominations for the following offices: President Elect, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, Treasurer. We also are taking nominations for Nominating Committee. The Board voted to allow the President to serve an additional term to have some continuity with the officers. We did secret ballot at the meeting but if you would like to nominate someone for one of the openings, please email Kathy by the 24th. Kathy will then be contacting those who were nominated and we are looking to have the ballot slated by the 26th. When you accept the nomination, you need to have a short biography sent to Kathy by the 25th to help some of our newer members know who they are voting for. This does not need to long and detailed, just a little blurb on how your experience might help you do the office for which you were nominated. Kathy will then email out the ballot on the 26th so that you have 5 days to look over it and we will vote at our March 3rd meeting. Kathy's email is kservian@yahoo.com.

We have again agreed to sponsor a book fair through Debbie Burget. This year the books will go to HeadStart. The Garden Expo will be held the weekend of March 6-8. I am asking that everyone signs up for a 2 hour shift sometime through the weekend. Friday is 5-7 and is the Business After Hours event. We are a member of the chamber so everyone is invited to attend this if they choose. Saturday is 10-6 and Sunday is 12-4. Cecilia has offered to go Friday at 11am to help Debbie set up if anyone else available to help. Please let me know what 2 hour shift you are able to work.

We also want to set up our Kids in the Kitchen event. Cecilia's Brownie Troop will be there on Saturday to help pass out health snacks. Does anyone have the Kids in the Kitchen stuff from two years ago? Does anyone know how we used to get the packets from AJLI? I am going to try and contact someone about it today, but it would be helpful if someone already had contact info.

We also only had one request from the Arbors..for a heating pad. Kathy has agreed to purchase that and deliver it.Paulahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17883571241227060322noreply@blogger.com0
